The Family

The family, the “domestic church”, is the community in which, from childhood, one can learn moral values, begin to honor God and make good use of freedom. Today, as we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, we are all reminded of the importance of the family in the plan of God. We are also reminded of our parental duty to present our children to the Lord and to be faithful in our duty as parent or guardians.

Like Simone, we await the consolation of Jesus and we can expect to be amazed at what the Holy Spirit will reveal to us about our children and God’s plan for them. We are reminded, too, that as we raise our children, it will not always be a bed of roses. We will also experience pains and hurts in our family relationships, just as Mary had been forewarned. But like Joseph and Mary, Simone and Anna, if we faithfully love and serve the Lord and witness this to our children, then we are assured that our family is in the best hands.
