Dance Elements

These are the four elements of dance:

Content Theme
A dance usually tells a story, conveys an emotion, or expresses an attitude. The dance uses bodily movements and gestures to communicate to the audience.

Movement
This is the fundamental element of dance. Movements are the means by which the dancer can manifest her emotions and inner feelings to the audience. Movements maybe slow, fast or they may accelerate or slow down.

Music
Music should relate to the dance for which it was created. It should not be just an aid to the rhythmic movement of the dancers.

Spectacle
The music and sequence of movements by the dancers cast a kind of spell upon the audience. The scenery and the costumes contribute to the dazzling spectacle and mesmerize the audience. The dance and the play both utilize costumes and scenery to delight the audience.
